The Disaster Trailer is used by Willmar Ambulance Service for many different reasons. The trailer is designed to be a communications center as well as a storage unit for equipment that may be needed in the event of a disaster.
The communications center contains phone lines, a fax machine, radio equipment, computers, and portable radio for staff on the scene of a disaster. The communications center is also capable of paging fire departments, ambulance services, and other rescue personnel.
The storage compartment contains everything from bandaging supplies to cots for patients to lie on. Oxygen tanks, bottled water, decontamination equipment and coolers are also stored in the trailer.
A few of the yearly events that the trailer is used for include Sonshine Music Festival and Willmar Fests. The trailer has also been used by law enforcement, fire departments and other disaster teams located outside of Kandiyohi County.
