A. Procedure
1. Find insertion site
2. Clean site
3. Setup EZ-IO driver
a. Open needle cartridge
b. Attach driver to needle set
c. Remove safety cap from needle
4. Stabilize leg
5. Power EZ-IO needle to the bone at 90 degree angle
6. Complete insertion
7. Remove driver from needle set
a. Stabilize needle set while disconnecting
8. Remove stylet from catheter
a. DO NOT attempt to replace the stylet once removed
9. Discard stylet in sharps container
10. Attach EZ-Connect tubing
11. Confirm placement
a. Push a saline flush with a 10 ml syringe prior to infusion
b. NO FLUSH=NO FLOW
12. Connect standard tubing to EZ-Connect tubing
13. Start infusion
a. ALWAYS use pressure infuser for IO infusions
14. Secure EZ-IO with tape
15. Monitor infusion site

1. Extravasations
2. Dislodgement
3. Compartment syndrome
4. Fracture
5. Pain
6. Reduced flow
7. Infection
C. Contraindications
1. Fracture of tibia or femur
2. Previous orthopedic procedures
3. Pre-existing medical condition
4. Infection at insertion site
5. Inability to locate landmarks
6. Excessive tissue over insertion site
D. Removal of EZ-IO
1. Grasp hub
2. Rotate clockwise while gently pulling
a. Maintain a 90 degree angle
b. DO NOT bend or rock the catheter
3. Dress site with a band aid
E. Cleaning
1. Wipe clean with wet cloth to remove large contaminants
2. Spray with QT or wipe with QT wipes
3. Wipe Dry
4. DO NOT SUBMERGE DRIVER AT ANY TIME
